Climate Related & Social Risks
ARCADIS has been commissioned by LeiriaShopping, to analyze the Social Risk and Opportunities for LeiriaShopping Shopping Center, located at IC2, Alto do Vieiro, 2400-441 Leiria, Portugal.
Leiria Shopping is a standalone shopping centre building with 5 floors, 2 of them are underground floors, including 115 shops of which 21 are restaurants and coffee kiosks, a hypermarket and cinema, an underground car park with 2 floors and 1410 spaces and another 478 external spaces. The construction of Leiria Shopping started in 2010 but the hypermarket was built in 1992.
Based on the information provided by the Site Representatives, the results of the site visit and the analysis of the collected public information, Arcadis has identified some relevant social risks and opportunities that are detailed:
- Loss of young and adult (15-64 years-old) population.
It is recommended: - Participate in different measures with local authorities to improve the social
conditions and campaigns that can boost population growth. - Climate and natural disasters such as flooding or earthquakes.
- General health issues such as pandemics. With the climate change, diseases can
increase.
For these two risks, Arcadis recommends:

Use of particular cars by users and customers.

For that the measures proposed are the following:

Require to the local authorities the public transport improvement, especially the
installation of a close bus stop. -
Install a private bus that connects, at least, Leiria Center with the Shopping Center,
especially for special dates such as Christmas time or weekends.
ARCADIS has been commissioned by LeiriaShopping, to analyse the Climate-Related Transition Risks and Opportunities for LeiriaShopping Center, located at IC2, Rua do Alto Vieiro, 2400-441 Leiria,Portugal.
LeiriaShopping is a shopping center constructed in 2010 in a former Continente Hypermarket with an external parking area.
The commercial complex is mainly composed by the hypermarket building, the Shopping Center include retail units, food court, cinema facilities, below ground car park, external car park, external areas, and the gas station. Based on the information provided by the Site Representatives and the analysis of the collected public information, Arcadis considers that LeiriaShopping does not present serious climate related transition risks, analysing the possible opportunities that may arise from these scenarios.
